My name is Abimars and I'm a music runner!
I was asked my opinion on Nike's new SportBand over a month ago, received the Sportband a couple of days later and it took me ages to find my Nike+ shoes!
I'd bought a pair when I started the couch to 5k program. I just walked into Nike Town, asked for running shoes and was out less than 5 minutes later with the
Nike air zoom hot shot+ no questions asked, what did I know then! Four weeks into the program and a bit wiser, I had a gait analysis done and my love affair with old faithful began.
The Nike+ SportBand is basically the Nike+ kit without the need for a nano, which is just perfect for me, since my main grouse with Nike+ was why it wouldn't work with a classic. The kit consists of a wrist band with a detachable link and a sensor for the left shoe. I had to download the Nike+ utility first, then charge the sport link in the USB port of my computer till it was fully charged, (took about 2 hours) slotted it back into the wristband and I was ready to go.
My regular blog family will recall that I haven't ever measured my pace or distance, just my time so it was with great trepidation during my run that I pressed the toggle and checked my pace, distance, time and calories burned. Hmmmnnn!
After my run I inserted the link into the USB port and it uploaded my run to the
nikeplus site. Easy peasy! I got carried away with all the tools on the site, the graphs, joined challenges, set goals. I was like a kid set loose in a toy store!
I didn't calibrate the sensor, will probably have to go to a track to do that as I hear treadmills are no good, so I really couldn't confirm if the distance was accurate.
This was my second run without music, my first was after a fellow runner got attacked for his ipod. I started running with music, I find that I am easily distracted and get tired when I run without music. I need a steady beat to relax and think. There are some songs that just get me going and I play them when I'm beginning to wane.
I enjoyed using the SportBand and it was even better teamed with my ipod classic.
